Early Bloomers Plant Sale at the Arboretum
Gardeners will find a great selection of young shrubs, small trees, conifers, bonsai starts, and early blooming perennials at the Arboretum Foundation’s annual Early Bloomers sale on Saturday, April 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This friendly, volunteer-run sale features plants propagated from specimens in the Washington Park Arboretum collection, as well as others donated to the Arboretum by area gardeners and Arboretum Foundation members.
Early Bloomers will be held outside Washington Park Arboretum’s Graham Visitors Center, at 2300 Arboretum Drive East, in Seattle. Parking and admission are free; the sale benefits Washington Park Arboretum. For information, visit www.arboretumfoundation.org or call 206-325-4510.

As always, dozens of specialty nurseries and vendors will be on-hand offering a spectacular array of trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals, vegetable starts, and more—from the latest introductions to old favorites.

Day of Caring at the Arboretum
125 Corporate Volunteers Will Help Beautify the Park
United Way of King County will stage their annual Day of Caring event next Friday, September 16, and Washington Park Arboretum is set to be hive of volunteer activity. One hundred and twenty-five volunteers representing four companies and organizations—Microsoft, AT&T, Nordstrom, and the Japanese Business Association of Seattle (JBAS)—will descend upon the Arboretum from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to work on five separate maintenance projects.
1. Cascadia Restoration—Weeding and mulching plant collections in the Cascadia Forest section of the new Pacific Connections Garden (JBAS).
2. Reclaim the Rhodies—Removing blackberry and mulching in Rhododendron Glen (Microsoft).
3. Revitalize the Pinetum—Mulching tree rings and other developed areas in the Pinetum, or conifer section of the Arboretum (Microsoft).
4. Wake up the Beds on Boyer—Mulching planting beds adjacent to Boyer Parking Lot (AT&T).
5. Don’t Let Azalea Way go to Pasture—Weeding and mulching shrub beds on historic Azalea Way (Nordstrom).
Gardeners from the University of Washington Botanic Gardens and Seattle Parks & Recreation will supervise the work. The Arboretum Foundation is coordinating the volunteer effort with United Way and hosting lunch for the volunteers.
